1 died after the Chesterfield truck stopped firing

Chesterfield County, Virginia – Authorities are searching for a second suspect in a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Chesterfield truck stop on Sunday night.

Officers were called to the Pilot Travel Center parking lot at 2126 Ruffin Mill Road around 6:05 p.m. after numerous calls about the shooting, said Chesterfield Police Lt. Justin Aronson.

“Upon arrival, officers found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds and learned that a suspect vehicle had fled the area,” Aronson said.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a district hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Aronson said.

The identity of the victim is being hidden until the relatives are informed, the police announced.

Aronson said shortly after police arrived at the truck’s stop, officers were called in an accident near the intersection of W. Hundred Road and Route 1. The crash involved a vehicle from the shooting, officials said.

“One suspect was detained on that scene,” Aronson said. “Police are still looking for a second suspect who escaped the crash.

Police described the suspect as a black man, approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and red sports shorts, according to police.
