Trena Peed, 46, was mauled to death by a pair of pit bulls she was dog-sitting in a brutal attack
A North Carolina mother of five, 46, was fatally injured in a brutal attack in her own home by a pair of pit bulls she kept as dogs.
Trena Peed, who recently lost her two sons in car crashes two years apart, was walking her dogs early Thursday at 2 a.m. when she was dragged out with them in the backyard.
Neighbors reported hearing screams that night.
“It’s dark. All I hear is her screaming and her dogs attacking her,” one neighbor said.
Pead’s son was in the home at the time of the attack and woke up to find his mother dead.
Police who responded to the calls found the woman dead in her Greensboro home.
“Early this morning my mother was tragically taken from us in a vicious dog attack,” said the woman’s daughter, Waynesha Pead, adding: “My siblings, grandmother, family and I are heartbroken by her sudden death.”
File photo: It was not clear who owned the pit bulls after the incident, and police have yet to press charges. Officers shot and killed one of the dogs at the scene
Officers shot and killed one of the dogs at the scene, reports said, while the other is now in the possession of law enforcement and is under quarantine.
It is unclear who the owner of the animals is after the incident, and police have yet to press charges.
“Whoever the owner is, he needs to get out because he says he loves my daughter. It shows no love for her right now,” mother Helen Harris told WFMY.
Harris had told her to stop caring for the two pit bulls just days earlier, she said.
‘It’s terrible. She was crushed to death. It’s horrible,” Peed’s neighbor said. “We were really good friends. She and my wife talked a lot together. We were just friends. It’s terrible, even if I didn’t know her at all, I don’t care who she was.
The family is appealing for donations to help bring the woman home for burial in Virginia, setting up a GoFundMe page.
