Scottish independence: Voters divided over plans to hold referendum next year | Scotland

Scottish voters are divided over whether an independence referendum should be held next year, according to a new poll that shows the country remains locked in a constitutional stalemate.

A Panelbase poll for The Sunday Times shows 44 per cent of voters oppose Nicola Sturgeon’s desire to hold a referendum in October 2023, with 43 per cent in favour. Ten percent said they neither supported nor opposed a referendum, and 3 percent said they did not know.

When asked whether or not they supported independence, 48 percent said they were in favor, while 47 percent were against it. Five percent said they didn’t know.
