‘I support this decision’ to postpone his Las Vegas residency – deadline

For Adele, the decision to postpone her residency in Las Vegas is now water under the bridge.

The British singer, who is headlining two festival shows at BST Hyde Park this weekend, told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that going ahead with her planned Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace earlier this year was impossible, saying, that the show just isn’t up to her standards.

The concerts were originally scheduled to begin on Friday, January 21 and run until mid-April. Delays without any makeup dates remain a sore spot for many Adele fans and critics.

“I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was afraid of letting them down and I thought I could pull myself together and make it work, but I couldn’t and I stand by that decision,” she said in a BBC interview.

She admitted the backlash had been “brutal” from fans angry about spending money on travel and hotels, not to mention missing work. This anger turned her into a “shell of a person for a few months.”

She added: “You can’t buy me, you can’t buy me for anything. I’m not going to do a show just because I have to or because people will be disappointed or because we’ll lose a lot of money. I’m like, “The show isn’t good enough.”

There is still no scheduled date for what is said to be a “delay”. The stage sets for the planned show were rubbish, according to reports, and the venue was moved forward with other artists.

“I won’t update you if I don’t have anything to update you on because that just leads to more frustration.”

Why the shows were canceled remains unclear. Adele initially blamed the pandemic, saying that “Half my crew, half my team were sick with COVID – they still are – and it was impossible to finish the show.” It was later reported that there were professional clashes between Adele and the production team because of a choir of 60 people and a pond from which the singer will come on stage.

The London shows in London’s Hyde Park featured an all-female line-up of artists highlighted by Kacey Musgraves.
