Christian Eriksen has verbally agreed to join Manchester United, The Athletic has learned.
Eriksen has told United he wants to play for the Old Trafford club and is ready to accept their offer of a three-year deal.
The process of drafting the contracts has already started and if this is finalised, the 30-year-old playmaker will have to undergo a medical.
That’s normal for all rookies and no problems are expected on that front, but given Eriksen’s history, it’s a significant hurdle to overcome.
The Danish international collapsed on the pitch at Euro 2020 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator – which meant he could not resume his career at then-club Inter Milan due to Serie A rules.
The Italian club agreed to terminate his deal before he joined Brentford. He joined the club in the second half of last season and played 11 times in the Premier League, scoring once.
Eriksen previously represented Tottenham Hotspur between 2013 and 2020. He played 226 times in the Premier League and scored 51 goals for the north London outfit. He started his senior career at Ajax.
