Rescue group concerned about future ban on commercial dogs entering Canada

Some animal rescue groups fear that countless dogs will starve to death or be killed if they are not allowed to enter Canada as a result of a recently announced policy.

Last week, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that starting September 28 – which is also World Rabies Day – it will block commercial dogs from entering the country. A commercial dog is defined as a dog for resale, adoption, breeding, breeding, show or exhibition, research and other purposes.

The agency has listed more than 100 countries that are considered high-risk for rabies.

Arabian Saluki Rescue – NL has sent dozens of abandoned dogs back to loving homes in Canada from Qatar over the years, but that will end in September.

Leah Hines says a number of dogs will be ready to go in the coming weeks, and she encourages people interested in adopting a pet from Qatar to keep a close eye on her page.
