Stranger Things viewers were left heartbroken by one particular death in the season four finale.
The fourth season ended with a second volume that was released on Friday (July 1), and viewers were worried that their favorite character would not survive.
*Spoilers ahead – you have been warned*
There are certainly deaths. In episode eight, Matthew Modine’s Dr. Martin Brenner seems to actually meet his maker after initially thinking he had perished in season one.
But the death in episode nine touched fans: Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn).
Although he was only introduced in the fourth season of the series, Eddie made a strong impression on viewers. Fans took to social media to express their sadness over his sacrifice for the show’s fictional town of Hawkins.
Fans are particularly moved by the fact that throughout the season, the residents of Hawkins have been hunting Eddie, believing him to be responsible for the Eternal’s murders.
A backlash of witches was waged against the hero, which did not prevent him from dying to save everyone – and what is worse, his fellow citizens do not even know it.
“Eddie died to protect a city that will remember him as a killer,” one fan wrote, while another added: “My man risked his life for a city that put his name in DIRT.”
“No, Eddie didn’t deserve to go out for a town that hated him,” said one fan.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix. Those who have watched the new episodes straight away may have noticed that some of the special effects are still not calibrated – due to finishing work on the episode with hours to go.
