Raise the Wage Nebraska to submit signatures to get a ballot question

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Members and supporters of the Raise the Wages Nebraska (RTWN) coalition will announce the status of their campaign efforts at a press conference Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

You can watch it live in the video player above.

RTWN’s ballot initiative would gradually increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026. They say it would directly benefit 150,000 Nebraskans, especially women and minorities.

The group needs at least 130,000 signatures on a petition to put the issue on the ballot in November 2022. RTWN said they reached their goal and are submitting the signatures to the Secretary of State’s office on Thursday.

The current minimum wage in Nebraska is $9/hour.

“Wages have not kept up with the cost of living, so it’s important that people decide to put this in front of everyone to vote on it and raise wages,” said Kate Wolf of Raise the Wage Nebraska.
