Homes ‘significantly damaged’ after tornado in southern Alberta

Alberta RCMP say several homes are in the vicinity of Sundre, Alta. were badly damaged in Thursday’s storm.

Officials say another home was completely leveled in the confirmed tornado.

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for a severe thunderstorm near the community around 3 p.m.

The agency said the storm did produce a tornado that touched down south of Sundre and north of Bergen, a community in Mountain View County.

RCMP say the area affected by the storm is from Township Road 320 between Range Road 44 and 45.

Officials say five homes were damaged, including one that was “leveled” by the tornado.

Mounties say one resident suffered a minor injury when debris fell on them as they tried to return to their damaged house.

Several roads in the area were also temporarily closed due to fallen trees and debris, but RCMP say they have since reopened.
