Kyrgios and Djokovic set side bet on dinner date ahead of Wimbledon clash | Wimbledon 2022

Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic have agreed a tasty side bet together with £2m ($A3.5m) to play in the Wimbledon final.

The pair’s unlikely but apparently blossoming ‘bromance’, which has come to light as they prepare to battle it out in Sunday’s final, was given a tongue-in-cheek twist ahead of the match when the pair indulged in a chat on Instagram , no doubt to the delight of their millions of followers.

The finalists, who were once known for pulling out daggers, have fared much better, even becoming friends on social media, since Kyrgios has emerged as Djokovic’s main defender during his trial in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open.

Now the two budding friends have agreed that they should go out to dinner, with the winner paying the bill, even if Kyrgios is also clearly keen, they should go out and have a crazy time at a nightclub.

The two met at training and had a chat before taking the conversation to social media.

Djokovic: It took you five years to say something nice about me.

Kyrgios: “But I protected you when it mattered.”

Djokovic: Do it, I appreciate that.

Kyrgios: “Are we friends now?”

Djokovic: “If you invite me for a drink or dinner, I accept.” PS Tomorrow’s winner pays.”

Kyrgios: ‘Deal, let’s go to a nightclub and get crazy.’

That last comment was perhaps Kyrgios’ cheeky nod to the photos taken in a Belgrade nightclub at the height of the Covid pandemic when Djokovic, organizer of the controversial Adria tournaments, was seen dancing naked to the waist.

Kyrgios wasn’t too impressed at the time, tweeting: “Insane decision to go ahead with ‘exhibition’ quick recovery guys but that’s what happens when you ignore all protocols.” This is not a joke.”
