The City of St. Johns is working hard to avoid what the City of Mount Pearl is going through.
St. John’s is in various stages of negotiations with half a dozen local unions whose contracts have expired.
Asked how those talks are going, St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen declined to negotiate publicly, saying it wouldn’t be appropriate.
He says they are working with unions to reach agreements through ongoing discussions.
Mount Pearl is in the midst of a municipal workers’ strike centered on equal benefits for new hires.
This led to the closure of the Summit and Glacier facilities, leading to a growing list of canceled programs.
