2022 British Open Odds: Surprise PGA Picks, Top-Rated Model’s Golf Predictions That Nail The Masters

The 2022 Open will begin on Thursday at the Old Course in St. Andrews. The last major of the season is expected to be a celebration as it is the 150th edition of the British Open. Despite his recent health issues, Tiger Woods has built his training schedule to be as fit as possible for the 2022 Open. St. Andrews holds a special place in the hearts of many legendary golfers and the 15-time major champion has had some incredible moments on the way to victories in 2000 and 2005.

Woods had to withdraw from the 2022 PGA Championship because his surgically repaired right leg was causing him significant pain and missed the 2022 US Open to ensure he would be eligible for the 2022 Open Championship. Caesars Sportsbook lists Woods as a 60-1 long shot to become the first player to win three British Opens at St. Andrews. Rory McIlroy is the 9-1 favorite among the 2022 Open contenders with four top-five finishes in his last seven starts. Before you lock in your 2022 Open Championship picks or enter any PGA DFS tournament on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to check out the PGA Tour predictions and betting tips from SportsLine’s proven golf model.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, created by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, he’s up over $9,500 on his top bets since then, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included Thomas in his best bets to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet went to +1600, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned almost $800. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s pattern was around Scheffler’s first major career championship victory heading into the weekend.

In addition, McClure’s best bets include outright victory over Colin Morikawa at the 2021 Open, although he was a huge 40-1 long shot. The model was also around Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship win at the 2021 US Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead at the start of the weekend, but the model still predicted him as the winner.

That same model also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed him has seen tremendous returns.

Now that the 2022 British Open golf tournament is approaching, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results were surprising. Head over to SportsLine now to see the predicted standings.

Top 2022 Open Predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for the 2022 Open Championship: Rory McIlroy, the 9-1 favorite for the 2022 British Open, fails to win it all and barely finishes in the top three. The 31-year-old Northern Irishman has 35 combined wins on the PGA and European Tours and three major championships. He won the Open Championship in 2014 and finished third when it was held at St Andrews in 2010.

He competes regularly in major tournaments, but inconsistent play continues to cost him titles. In the three majors this season, he has shot at least one round of 67 or less, but also had at least one round of 73 or better. The model calls for him to fail again, making him one of the favorites to disappear in the 2022 British Open betting.

Another surprise: Dustin Johnson, a 35-1 longshot, is making a strong run for the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 38-year-old made waves earlier in the season when he left the PGA Tour after recording 24 wins there to join the LIV Golf Series. The former world No. 1 has dropped to 18th in the Official World Golf Ranking as the LIV Golf Series is currently out of points.

However, Johnson finished third at the last LIV Golf Series event in Portland and was top 10 at the first LIV Golf Series event in London. Johnson is currently fourth on the money list on the Saudi-backed tour, having earned $2.65 million in prize money in just two starts. He now enters the 2022 Open Championship after finishing eighth at last year’s British Open. Johnson has qualified 10 of the 12 times he’s played in the Open Championship and has four top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish in 2011. See who else to pick here.

How to make picks for the 2022 Open Championship

The model targets three other golfers at odds of 22-1 or more to make surprise runs. Anyone who backs up those long shots could land a big hit. You can see only the model selection here.
