Manitoba RCMP officers have charged a Steinbach Regional High School teacher with sexual assault and sexual harassment after several students made allegations against him.
RCMP said they received reports of assault from six schoolgirls between the ages of 15 and 18 last month. Police said the assaults took place on school property between February 1 and May 31, 2022.
Since then, other female students have come forward to police with information to help the investigation.
On July 4, Steinbach RCMP officers arrested David Buetti, 41. He is charged with five counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual interference. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Buetti was released from custody on a release order with several conditions.
Buetti worked as a teacher and coach at Steinbach Regional High School from February 2022 to June 2022, according to RCMP.
He previously worked at several schools in Winnipeg. This includes a six-month period in 2021 at River East Collegiate and a four-month period in 2020 at Holy Cross School. He also taught at Holy Spirit School from 2006 to 2007 and St. John Breboeuf School from 2007 to 2018.
Police are continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information or wanting to speak with an investigator can call 204-326-1234.
