Alcohol has absolutely no health benefits for people under 40, new research shows

According to a new global study, the risks that alcohol poses to people under the age of 40 are significantly higher than previously thought. With alcohol so harmful to younger generations, researchers are calling for stricter guidelines from governments around the world about the potential harm drinking can do to your body. The study found that at least 1.34 billion people from 204 countries consumed “harmful amounts” of alcohol in 2020, with more than half (59 percent) aged 15 to 39 and three-quarters of them men. The study says alcohol has no health benefits for people under 40 and those who continue to drink are at risk of drinking-related injuries or car crashes, suicide and even murder. Good news for those over 40, though: Senior author Dr Emmanuela Gakidou, professor of health indicators at the University of Washington School of Medicine, told Sky News: “Younger people shouldn’t drink, but older people can have benefit of drinking small amounts.”
