A nurse’s license in the West Kootenay district of British Columbia has been suspended for six months for assisting in the production of fake COVID-19 vaccine cards.
Registered nurse Sarah Jones, from Castlegar, will also have to undergo remedial training in professional ethics. according to a public announcement released Friday by the College of Nursing and Midwives of British Columbia.
The notice said Jones signed a consent agreement with the college regarding professional misconduct committed in 2021 “arising from the use of her position, experience, trust in public health and her knowledge of the vaccination system to carry out the fraudulent creating four vaccine cards.”
It goes on to say that Jones told different stories about what happened when he spoke to his employer, witnesses and the college.
“Her behavior is considered a marked ethical departure from the behavior expected of a nurse,” the notice said.
The British Columbia government said all cases of suspected fraud related to the provincial vaccine registry will be referred to police.
A college spokesman said he could not provide information on whether Jones’ actions were ever investigated by police. RCMP said they typically cannot confirm whether there has been an investigation unless someone has been charged.
The requirement to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 before using a range of services was in effect from 13 September 2021 to 8 April 2022.
