The Montreal Canadiens have signed Rem Pitlik to a two-year contract.
Pitlick was a pending restricted free agent at the end of the season but was not offered a qualifying offer prior to free agency. Instead, Kent Hughes bought himself time to evaluate his lineup decisions and now signs Pitlick to a two-year, $1.1 million cap deal after making several other offseason moves.
Pitlick had 37 points in 2021-22, 26 of them with the Canadiens after being waived by the Minnesota Wild midseason, and looked like one of the Canadiens’ best players at times. That may say more about the team last year than the player, but there’s still a lot to like about Pitlik’s game. He will be a good roster option, at least during the rebuilding phase of the organization.
