Toronto police have identified a man fatally shot outside Scotiabank Arena

Toronto police have identified a man who was fatally shot outside Union Station Saturday night.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Toronto police responded to “multiple” reports of gunshots in the area of York Street and Bremner Boulevard, which is near Scotiabank Arena and the entrance to Union Station.

According to Duty Insp. Paul Krawczyk, officers arrived on scene and found a male victim lying on the ground.

Paramedics treated him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Police identified the victim late Sunday as Stephon Little-McLacken, 24, of Toronto.

Witnesses told police Saturday night they saw one suspect running south and another running toward Union Station.

As a result, Union Station was locked down and TTC and GO Train service was temporarily suspended.

Police searched the area but found no suspects.

Investigators said in a release Sunday that they are looking for one suspect, described as a black man, about six feet tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing a light-colored top and dark pants.

Krawczyk said police believe the shooting, which occurred as thousands of people were downtown for several events over the weekend, including a Blue Jays game and Honda Indy Toronto, was not random.

“I understand that this would be very disturbing to the public, for it to happen in such a public place at 7:30 at night, shortly after the Blue Jays game has come out,” he said.

“I want you to know that from the preliminary investigation — and again, it’s very early — it appears that this is a targeted shooting, so I don’t believe there is any additional risk to the public at this time.”

In a statement Sunday, Mayor John Tory said his “thoughts are with those grieving a loved one today” after the shooting, adding that “any gun violence in our city is unacceptable.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Toronto Police Homicide Unit at 416-808-7400 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
