Ricky Martin’s nephew dropped his harassment and affair charges against the singer on July 21 in court, effectively ending the case.
Joaquin Montserrat Matienzo, Carmelo Davila and Harry Massane Pastrana, Martin’s attorneys, released a statement regarding the dismissal.
“As we expected, the temporary protection order was not extended by the court,” the statement said. “The prosecutor confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without outside influence or pressure, and the prosecutor confirmed that he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter. The request came from the prosecutor asking for the case to be dismissed. This was never more than a troubled individual making false claims with absolutely nothing to back them up. We are pleased that our client has seen justice and can now move forward with his life and career.”
Martin appeared virtually in a court in Puerto Rico to answer the allegations made by his 21-year-old nephew. Martin was previously served with a restraining order by his nephew in early July, citing abuse. Martin has denied the allegations against him, with the singer’s lawyer offering a statement on the matter last Friday.
“Ricky Martin, of course, has never been — and never would be — involved in any sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” said Martin Singer, Martin’s attorney. “The idea is not only false, but disgusting. We all hope this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But most of all, we look forward to seeing this horrible case dismissed as soon as a judge gets the facts.
The singer’s brother also claimed that Martin’s nephew “struggles with deep mental health issues.”
Aside from this case, Martin is currently facing other legal issues, with his former manager suing him for $3 million, claiming he owes her unpaid commissions.
