Hockey Canada has announced that members of its 2003 men’s ice hockey world championship team are being investigated for alleged gang sexual abuse.
The national sports body says it learned of the alleged incident Thursday night after being contacted by a reporter seeking comment about the alleged assault.
Hockey Canada said it immediately contacted Halifax Regional Police about the allegations, as Halifax was the host city for the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The national hockey organization says it has also contacted Sport Canada and informed it of the allegations.
Hockey Canada has lost government funding and corporate sponsorships following alleged sexual assault by members of the 2018 men’s youth hockey team.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said yesterday there needs to be a “real reckoning” at Hockey Canada as the organization continues to deal with the fallout from its handling of the June 2018 sexual abuse allegations and the out-of-court settlement.
