A water park in the Laurentians region of Quebec is closed today after a 14-year-old girl drowned in its facility.
Emergency services were called to the Super Aqua Club in Pointe-Calumet around 5pm on Friday, where they took the girl to hospital after lifeguards first tried to revive her.
Local police believe the girl drowned after going down a slide that flowed into a small lake.
They say the teenager was at the park with her two older sisters, who contacted park rescuers when she didn’t reappear.
Deux-Montagnes police spokesman Jean-Philippe Labbe said the death was believed to be accidental and there was nothing to suggest negligence or criminal wrongdoing.
The water park said on its Facebook page that its entire team is in mourning and offering support to employees affected by the tragedy.
