The next leader of the Conservative Party must have “strong character” and be able to make “difficult decisions” that may prove unpopular, David Davies has said.
Former Brexit secretary and supporter Rishi Sunak told Times Radio: “A future leader of this country will already have economic problems to deal with, the Ukraine crisis to deal with and oil supplies, the energy supply crisis and other times, Taiwan, whatever, and you’re going to have to be able to make tough decisions.
“You’ll remember again if you want to go back to the Thatcher example, tough decisions, often unpopular for years, but they got the result and that’s what we need.
“We need someone who has the strength of character, that is, as I said, consistency of principle, courage, intelligence to do it and I think that person is Rishi Sunak.”
