Liz Truss was interrupted by campaigners as she attempted to deliver her opening speech at the Conservative Party rally in Eastbourne.
Protesters from Green New Deal Rising shouted “Shame on you” and “Green New Deal” as they stood with placards inside the match venue.
“I think we have some infiltrators, and I will wait until they are expelled,” said Mrs. Truss, pausing her speech.
Tory members in the audience could be heard chanting “out, out, out!”

After five people were removed by security personnel, she continued: “Can I just say a few words about the militant people who are trying to destroy our country and who are trying to destroy our democratic process and are trying to interfere with our basic services.
“I would legislate immediately to make sure we stand up to militant unions stopping ordinary commuters from finding work. And I would legislate to protect our essential services.”
The foreign secretary added: “And I will make sure that militant activists like Extinction Rebellion are not able to upset ordinary people who work hard and do the right thing and go to work.”
“I will never, ever allow our democracy to be undermined by dishonest protests.”
Ms Truss was later interrupted by a protester’s jeers for a second time.
“Can I just say that I take it as a compliment that I’m so popular with Extinction Rebellion,” quipped the foreign secretary.
Green New Deal Rising is described as a movement of 16-35 year olds who are stopping politicians from protesting the climate and economic crisis and demanding the Green New Deal – a 10-year plan to create millions of good green jobs and restructure the economy .
Speaking to Sky News, one of the protesters who was kicked out, Fatima Ibrahim, said those in the room were “angry”.
“We are angry young people who have watched these races and are tired of candidates who avoid the real crisis and the only answer they give is tax breaks for their rich partners and people like BP and Shell, while the rest of us are told fasten your seat belts,” she said.
“As a movement, we will challenge whoever becomes prime minister.”
She added that Mrs Truss had “no credible plan” to deal with the energy crisis.
A press release issued by Green New Deal said the five activists stood up and interrupted Ms Truss during her opening remarks to protest rising energy costs and the climate crisis.
The group said it was acting in a week when energy companies BP, Shell and Centrica posted record profits and when UK household energy bills soared.
