Police in South Brunswick ruled out criminal activity Friday after a witness Wednesday reported seeing a woman bleeding from the face and screaming for help in the cab of a tractor trailer on Route 130.
The case “appears to be a complete accident,” said Jim Ryan, deputy chief of the South Brunswick Police Department.
Early reports from officials say the truck driver pulled the woman back into the cab of the tractor trailer Wednesday afternoon. The driver then traveled on Route 130 South before exiting onto Ridge Road, police said.
Police found the woman and the truck driver together late Thursday afternoon, officials said. Both agreed to come to the police station. Ryan said police ruled out foul play after speaking with both the driver and the woman.
Ryan said the woman and man were a married couple in their 50s. The man driving the truck stopped when a car pulled in front of them, he said.
This caused the woman, who was standing between the cabin and the berth, to fall forward and hit her head on a cup holder. She started bleeding and screaming for help, Ryan said.
He added that the husband had pulled over to the junction on the road. When the husband saw her bleeding, he pulled her back into the truck and went to get her medical attention.
“He doesn’t even realize the witness reporting him is even there,” Ryan said. “He didn’t even know anyone saw the interaction between him and his wife at all.”
Police received tip-offs from across the country after asking the public for help through social media, officials said.
The woman was treated and had a bandage on her head, Ryan said. “We have ruled out any criminal activity,” he added.
