Sir Iain Duncan Smith says that “in the end it’s all about character”.
“Yes, there are all the policies, Liz is right, I believe I don’t understand a Conservative government that thinks high taxes are an advantage.
“The recession is crippling families, leaving them destitute and shattering their hopes and aspirations. Liz is right when she says that we must work to avoid recession at all costs. It is about the character of the individual we want to choose. It is about their strength, their determination, their clarity of purpose and, indeed, loyalty to their colleagues to their colleagues in setting and pushing policy… She is fully up to the challenge.
“When I look at Liz and talk to her, I get that feeling of real steel in her spine. Someone who, once she’s made a decision, is ready to push it forward and take on Labour. This steel reminds me of a man I knew who was prime minister.”
