EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-nominated actor Frank Langella stars in Usher’s The Fall of the House, eight episodes of a limited edition Netflix series based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe.
Langela was the subject of an investigation that has been completed, Deadline sources said. He found that Langella was involved in unacceptable behavior on the set. As a result, it was decided to rework the role of Roderick Usher, I learned.
The fall of Usher’s house is about half the production. The scenes that have already been shot by Langella will be re-shot.
Lanjela was not scheduled to work this week. Filming for the series will continue with scenes that do not include Roderick Usher’s character until a new actor is chosen. Netflix declined to comment. Langella’s representatives were not found for comment.
Sources confirmed to Deadline TMZ’s report earlier this week that the investigation was launched after the 84-year-old actor was accused of sexual harassment, including making inappropriate comments to a colleague on set during work.
Langella directs the cast of The Fall of the House of Usher, which also stars Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbley and Mark Hamill.
The eight-episode series is described as an epic story of greed, horror and tragedy. The short story of The Fall of Usher’s House, which forms the basis of the show, includes themes of madness, family, isolation and identity.
Roderick Usher, the role Langella previously played and is now being reworked, is the rising patriarch of the Asher dynasty.
The series, created by Mike Flanagan, was produced by the author along with his partner in Intrepid Pictures Trevor Macy, as well as Amy Greenwich and Michael Fimonyari. Melinda Nishioka of Intrepid Pictures, co-executive producer of the project. Flanagan and Michael Fimonyari directed four episodes each.
