How did Somerset escape this rift in their wadding universe? It will be a long, long season. The head is lowered to the neck, the neck is lowered to the shoulders: 49-5. Three for Sam Cook, two for Mark Steckiti.

Tanya, John Burton, Hello! “Why 4 teams have a goodbye during this round of games, I had guessed that the purpose of dividing the divisions into even numbers is that everyone can play. Is there any good reason to say goodbye?

There’s no reason for each team to play six games in the first seven weeks – so we think everyone gets a week off.

The first seven rounds are held from Thursday to Sunday in consecutive weeks. Five more rounds follow in June and July before the final in September.

Each district plays 14 games of the championship, with seven home games and seven away games. So in Div Two, everyone plays, but in Div One … they don’t.

Happy birthday, Durham! Thirty years of first-class county today. Last week’s undefeated centurion Alex Lees is not playing today, whispering about an injury.

Hi @tjaldred.

Here, in the sun-kissed Oval, a decent crowd applauds every thick outer edge, which is for four, as they did at Lord’s last week.

Is this the accepted etiquette now?

Oh, I think that in the sun, with the upcoming bank vacation, people are happy to clap most things! I don’t know if people are becoming less perceptive. Do you think it matters?

Marcus Harris tapped Harris Rauf Square for four – a magnificent shot – and Oooh fell from Harry Duke’s next ball. Glucks 29-0.

Okay, it’s time for coffee and sniff the sludge from Division One:

Here in Gloucestershire, things were slow: Fisher and Thompson held on tight, four gaps, a good spread of cheap seats. And here comes Harris Rauf.

Lancashire lost their first goal of the day, even for the season. Balderson went for 7, while Wales broke six fours in his 30 – three Weetabix in the morning.

Somerset’s best line is as fragile as ever: 25-2, Green and Renshaw leave; while Surrey joins second gear, Burns and Patel swap roles in Edgbaston: Burns is cheeky and Patel is stable.

“How the hell can it be fair for England to turn down Anderson for tests in the West Indies and then block Lancashire from using it, but without guaranteeing him a place in the next test?” Steven Herzenberg asks. “They stop Anderson from showing the ECB by destroying Kent.

Hi Stephen, as far as I know, Anderson and Broad set their own schedules for physiotherapy, and so on. in order – as in other years – to get in the best shape for the first test. Another question is whether they will play or not …

Anya Shrubsoul is retiring

A legend puts on his hat:

Schrubsoul, who won two World Cups with England – the iconic player of the match on that fantastic late night at Lord’s in 2017, taking 6-46 – covered the amateur and professional game.

She began her domestic career for Somerset before continuing to play 173 games for England in all formats, winning Ashes twice and winning 227 goals. She finished fourth on the ODI list of English players and retired as the current top player in England’s IT20.

She became the first woman to appear in front of Wiesden in 2018 and kept her golden hand until the end, taking two key doors in the final semi-final of the World Cup against South Africa. She will continue to play home cricket.

“I feel extremely privileged to have been able to represent my country for the last 14 years,” Schrubsoul said. “It was an honor to play women’s cricket at a time of such growth, but it became clear to me that it was moving forward faster than I could handle, so it’s time to step back.

“I never, in my wildest dreams, thought I would be lucky enough to play for England for so long that I would be happy with a game. There have been many ups and downs along the way, but it was all worth it to be able to lift the ICC Women’s World Cup at Lord’s in 2017.

“There were so many …
