Veteran Sen. Diane Feinstein is sometimes unable to recognize longtime colleagues or support arguments in the House, according to a new report. “The San Francisco Chronicle reports that in a recent conversation with another MP, 88-year-old Feinstein, who recently lost her husband,” repeated the same questions for light conversations … without clearly recognizing that the two had already had a similar conversation. ” The Chronicle report says that “four U.S. senators, including three Democrats, as well as three former Feinstein officials and a member of Congress from California” told them “her memory is deteriorating rapidly” and that she “can no longer performs its duties without its staff doing much of the work needed to represent nearly 40 million people in California. Sources said Feinstein was “almost as sharp as he used to be” in the good days, and the Chronicle said she performed well during the confirmation hearings for new Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. A source described as a “California Democrat employee” told the paper: “There’s a joke on the hill, we have a great junior senator in Alex Padilla and experienced staff in Feinstein’s office.” In a statement, Feinstein said: “The last year has been extremely painful and distracting for me, flying back and forth to visit my dying husband, who died just a few weeks ago. But there is no doubt that I am still serving and delivering for the people of California and will set my record against someone else. ”
