Russia has failed to stop jokers from hoisting a Ukrainian flag on the embassy

The Russian embassy in Washington has a facade that is mostly large, flat and white. This is a design that, albeit accidentally, gives the building a certain resemblance to a projector screen.

This is exactly how it was used by pro-Ukrainian jokers. A video uploaded to social media this morning shows Boris Nemtsov Plaza, home of the embassy, at night. The Ukrainian flag, bright blue and yellow on a dark background, is projected on the dense greenery of the trees to the right of the embassy.

The flag, apparently shining on the other side of the wide boulevard, began to flutter to the left. He is relentlessly moving towards the Russian embassy, arriving in the upper left corner. The embassy is already lit by large, dim spotlights in red, white and blue on the Russian flag – and a second, smaller Ukrainian flag, which suggests some joking coordination.

It is the stronger flag that triggers the capture attempt that made this video viral. A white Russian searchlight sweeps up, straight to the oncoming Ukrainian flag. “They’re trying to drown you,” said a bystander.

Attempts at military escorts have failed. The Ukrainian flag is so bright that the white spotlight is barely visible. Boldly, the Ukrainian flag continues to invade Russian territory, adding insult to the injury by provocatively swaying up and down.

The Ukrainian flag is already flying, dominating the white facade. When the Russian spotlight chases him, the Ukrainian flag shakes. The 43-second clip ends with a loud laugh.
