M6 drivers have been warned that this morning is likely to close south to allow for recovery after a truck overturned. A driver was injured after the truck left the lane and overturned.
Currently, one lane is closed from junction 24 to junction 23. National highways have said they will have to close the road completely once the restoration is in place.
National Highways: North-West said in a Twitter update shortly after 5 a.m.: “Only 1 lane (out of 3) is already closed on #M6 south in #GreaterManchester between J24 (#StHelens) and J23 due to a truck leaving the road canvas. A complete closure of the roadway will be required when restoration is in place. Updates follow. “
The Inrix Traffic Information Service added: “One lane is closed due to an overturned truck and restoration work on the M6 Southbound from J24 A58 Liverpool Road (Ashton In Makerfield) to J23 A580 East Lancashire Road (Haydock). Lane one (out of three) is closed. Recovery is expected to continue throughout the morning. “

Northwest Highway Police confirmed they were currently at the scene and said there was “a happy driver with minor injuries.” The news comes when millions of motorists are expected to hit the country’s roads to escape Easter over the weekend. Follow our live blog for more updates as we receive them.
