Ottawa sees some signs of hope with COVID-19 in the city, as wastewater levels showed a drop for the first time in weeks.

According to the Ottawa COVID-8 Wastewater Monitoring Forecast, seven-day average viral signals have declined – even slightly – although levels remain almost at record highs.

However, data on the effects of melting snow and other diluting factors that could affect the readings are currently being studied.

On Thursday, April 14, the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) reported 287 new cases in the region, as well as 1,837 active cases.

Eighteen people are in hospital with an active infection with two in the intensive care unit.

There are still 48 outbreaks in institutional settings.
