This was what Boris Johnson and his senior aides feared and expected. Shortly before noon on Tuesday, Downing Street called the Metropolitan Police to inform the Prime Minister that he was on a list of thirty and 10 employees, who, as just announced, will be fined for violating the rules for blocking.
The only problem was that when the news came, almost no one was at the scene – so to speak – for the crime.
The prime minister and his wife were in Checkers, where Johnson was due to take a few days off during the Easter parliamentary holiday. Steve Barkley, his chief of staff, took advantage of Johnson’s absence to return home
