The fierce attacks on pubs and clubs were so fierce that thugs had to be sent to prison

From a merciless beating of a pensioner to a “cheap hit” that turned out to be deadly – some of our most popular pubs and nightclubs have become a scene of brutal violence in recent years. They are supposed to be the places where friends socialize and catch up to have fun, but alcohol and a broken ego create a fickle cocktail.

This year, a number of people have been convicted of brutal attacks on famous nightclubs in Birmingham and the Black Country. Such incidents are a nightmare for the places themselves, which turn out to be unfair, but inevitably tarnished.

We have collected some of the main cases below, all of which led to immediate prison sentences due to the gravity of the attack. Tragically, in more than one case, the result was the loss of life, causing devastation for families who saw their loved ones go out to have fun but never return home.

A large crowd in front of Digbeth’s Lab 11 nightclub witnessed a murder that took place in front of their eyes thanks to Zeschel Reed, who killed a man for alleged “disrespect” for him. Surveillance captured something like the “mouth” of Jason Bentley-Morrison’s knifeman, who punched him in obvious revenge.

The two faced each other in the street as a large gathering followed them across the road. At one point, the 25-year-old victim was knocked to the floor and when witnesses served him, they saw that he was stabbed in the abdomen, which turned out to be fatal.

Reed was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison for a minimum of 20 years. The full story here

He later told police planted in front of his home that he had a hand grenade and a machine gun. Delaney hit the 72-year-old victim on the head as she allegedly refused to reveal the whereabouts of the convicted sex offender he was looking for.

The victim also cut his head off by another attacker while lying on the floor. When police tracked Delaney to his home, they were given a phone call saying he was “dangerous” and would “blow you all up.” The 49-year-old from Newstead Road, Kingstend, admitted that he intentionally wounded and threatened to kill.

Celebrators in downtown Birmingham were horrified after a man was killed in a single fatal blow outside a snail and salad. Earlier in the night, there was a riot at Brindleyplace Bar when Matthew Carroll, 50, was celebrating his son’s birthday.

Additional problems followed later in the night as they left the scene. Matthew Mahoney was in the crowd, and although he had not been inside Slug and Maruce before, he turned to Mr. Carol and punched him cheaply in the face, breaking his jaw and knocking him to the ground.

The blow proved fatal. Mahoney, in his 30s from Edgebaston, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but his allegations that he acted in defense of his friends were rejected. He was sentenced to five years in prison. A complete story here

Ravinder Sony

Ravinder Sony

Ravinder Sonny and an accomplice cut a car into three killers after Sonny took his phone earlier that night. The 31-year-old was involved in an incident with a porter at the Floodgate bar in Digbet.

About 40 minutes later, he returned to pursue them with the other man. The first security guard was hit at speed by their Audi before the two went out and hit him with baseball bats.

Two of the victim’s colleagues rushed to help and pulled the victim to the fence, but the Audi returned and also crashed into them, pressing one against the wall and cover.
