Fire crews attend a fire at an industrial building in Westbrook, Newbury, after a fire sent a huge cloud of smoke through the M4.
A spokesman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 1:41 pm on Saturday, April 16, we received reports of a fire in an industrial building in Westbrook, Newbury. Teams from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service of Newbury, Thiel and two officers are currently being sent to the scene, along with teams from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services.
“Firefighters have discovered a fire involving possible pyrotechnics and fireworks. Borders have been set, but people have been urged to stay away from the area while emergency services deal with the blaze.
The fire service added in a tweet: “Fire crews are currently witnessing a large fire near the M4 J14-13 highway. Please limit all emergency calls as crews are extremely busy. “
The M4 was closed in both directions between junction 13 and junction 14 after debris fell on the roadway. There is a diversion and drivers are warned to prepare for delays in their travels.
