Currently, about 75 firefighters are battling a fierce fire on top of a high tower in Coventry. The blaze forced people to flee their homes tonight (Saturday, April 16) as fellow Birmingham firefighters were also sent to help.
At 10:45 p.m., three adults and a child were taken to safety by firefighters on the 16th floor of Nauls Mill House, Middleborough Road, Coundon. They were given special fire hoods to wear while crews removed them from the property.
The fire broke out on the 15th floor of the tower. The West Midlands Fire Department was called to the incident at 8:47 p.m. and arrived within minutes.
Seventeen response vehicles were present at the incident tonight, including 13 firefighters, including some from Birmingham. West Midlands police and an West Midlands ambulance were also at the scene, along with representatives from Coventry City Council.
It is not yet known how many people were in the block during the fire and whether there were any casualties. This is a smashing incident. See below for updates.
