A murder investigation is underway tonight after a young man died after an attack in the city center.
Merseyside police confirmed that around 5.50pm emergency services were called to an internet cafe on London Road after a signal that an 18-year-old man had been attacked. Officers arrived and an ambulance took the victim to hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
Emergency services descended on London Road, with eyewitnesses saying a “very large” cordon had been set up. The cordon covered parts of London Road as well as Anson Street.

About 12 police cars and vans were spotted at the scene as detectives were photographed in front of the property. Police vehicles and several police officers were also spotted in front of the Royal University Hospital in Liverpool on Saturday night.
Detective Chief Inspector Terry Davis said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm that an 18-year-old man died after an incident in central Liverpool tonight (Saturday, April 16). We are at a very early stage of the investigation as we seek to establish what happened and who was involved.
“London Road would have been busy with people at the time of the incident, so I would ask anyone who was around tonight at around 5.30pm who saw or heard something suspicious or could have captured something significant on their mobile phone. , camera control and video surveillance to contact us as a matter of urgency. “
