President Zelensky warns the world to prepare for a Russian nuclear attack on Ukraine

Speaking from the country’s capital, Kyiv, Mr Zelensky expressed concern that the Russian president might also be prepared to use chemical weapons against Ukraine.

Asked if he was worried about the prospect of a nuclear attack by CNN, Mr Zelenski said: “Not just me – the whole world, all countries need to worry.”

He added: “Chemical weapons … They could do it, for them people’s lives [is] Nothing. That’s why. We have to think, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, but be prepared.

“But this is not a question for Ukraine, not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world, I think.

Mr Zelensky said about 2,500 to 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died so far and another 10,000 had been injured in the conflict.

However, he is not sure of the number of civilian casualties.

He said: “It is very difficult to talk about civilians, because in the south of our country, where cities are blocked – Kherson, Berdyansk, Mariupol to the east and the region to the east, where Volnovakha is – we just do not. I know how many people died in this area that is blocked. “

He also spoke about the recent sinking of the Russian flagship Msokwa.

The Ukrainian leader said the sinking was not a “tragedy” for them, as he acknowledged that the fewer weapons the Russian Federation had, the better for them.

The governor of Ukraine Odessa region Maxim Marchenko said that the forces of his country hit the ship with two anti-ship missiles “Neptune”. The Russians said his flagship warship sank after an explosion of ammunition.

Russia says all 500 crew members were rescued on Wednesday. Ukrainian authorities say some of the people on board have died, including the ship’s captain.

The Russian Federation has suffered damage to two key naval assets – the landing ship “Moscow” and the class “Alligator” Saratov – after the invasion of Ukraine, said the Ministry of Defense of London.

On Friday, British defense chiefs said Russia was likely to reconsider its naval position in the Black Sea after the incident.
