Kamala Harris and her husband earned more than twice as much as Joe Biden and his wife last year, according to copies of their tax returns released Friday.
Harris and the so-called second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, reported federal adjusted gross income of about $ 1.7 million in 2021, roughly the same as they claimed to have won the previous year.
Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden cite an income of nearly $ 611,000, about $ 4,000 more than they did in 2020, according to their White House tax documents.
The vice president and her husband also said they had paid $ 523,371 in income taxes, at a rate of 31.6%. For their part, Bidens said they were taxed $ 150,439 on their income, which means the president’s family’s tax rate is 24.6 percent.
Nearly $ 772,000 of the revenue Harris and Emhoff report comes from the sale of a condominium in San Francisco and the pay she earned as a writer, tax documents show. The couple said they donated $ 22,100 to charity last year, with Biden reporting $ 17,394 for charity.
The Biden family’s biggest charitable gift – $ 5,000 – went to the Beau Biden Foundation, a public charity named after the president’s late son and dedicated to protecting children from violence. Nine other groups separated the balance from their charitable donations.
For their part, Harris and Emhoff reported donations of $ 5,000 to three schools they attended: California State University, Northridge; Howard University; and the University of Southern California.
In a White House statement accompanying Friday’s release, it makes sense to say that Joe Biden has already shared with the public tax returns for 24 years, which “once again demonstrates his commitment to being transparent with the American people about the finances of the Commander-in-Chief ”.
Harris, meanwhile, has already released 18-year-old tax returns, the White House said in a statement.
Donald Trump, Biden’s presidential predecessor, whom he defeated in the 2020 election, has never released his tax returns.
Last year, however, the New York Times received and reported on Trump’s tax information for decades. This report showed in part that Trump had not paid income taxes for 11 of the 18 years the Times considered.
Harris released his tax returns hours after meeting with Tanzanian President Sami Suluhu Hassan. Earlier, Biden announced plans to visit the Northwest Pacific amid declining approvals as the November midterm elections approach.
