LONDON – Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge attended an Easter church service at Windsor Castle.
The queen, who has mobility problems, did not attend the service at St. George’s Chapel in the castle, part of the royal calendar.
William and Catherine were accompanied by two of their three children: 8-year-old Prince George and 6-year-old Princess Charlotte.
Also present were the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, with his wife Sophie and their children, and Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew.
The Queen, who turns 96 on Thursday, is celebrating her platinum anniversary this year, celebrating 70 years on the throne.
She reduced her public duties on the orders of her doctors after spending a night in hospital in October, and also had a COVID-19 attack in February. She attended a memorial service last month for her late husband, Prince Philip, and continued to meet virtually with diplomats and politicians.
On Thursday, she was visited by her grandson Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex – the first time the couple visited the UK together since retiring as working royalty in 2020 and moving to California.
Harry and Megan visited the Queen in Windsor, 32 kilometers west of London, on their way to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games. Harry is the founder and patron of the International Sports Competition for Wounded or Sick Soldiers and Veterans.
