SNP “engulfed in filth” as it faces calls to suspend two lawmakers following allegations of sexual harassment

However, the complaints were upheld under the new scheme for independent complaints and grievances, writes The Sunday Times, and politicians were asked to respond.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats have called for the party’s whip to be removed by both MPs, which would mean they will be forced to sit as independents and will not be able to run again if the party is not reinstated.

A spokesman said: “The SNP is vocal in favor of misconduct in conservative benches, they must recognize that the same standards they require of others must be applied to them.

“Swallowed by slop”

The Scottish Tories, meanwhile, say that despite the party scandal, the SNP has been “swallowed up by slop”.

“It appears that Nicolas Sturgeon’s party has again failed victims of alleged sexual abuse,” said Stephen Kerr, the party’s chief whip.

“The SNP showed a complete lack of transparency and tried to erase these horrific incidents under the rug in the hope that people would forget about them. The victims deserve better than being treated as a belated thought by the SNP. “

Ms Sturgeon had previously admitted that she was aware of “concerns” about Mr Grady, but the party did not take formal action as a result.

He stepped down as a major whip in March last year after a formal complaint was filed and charges against him became public.

He was a senior party official before being elected to Glasgow North in 2015. He did not publicly address the allegations.

The outcome of the Westminster authorities’ investigation has been referred to an independent expert group that can recommend sanctions, including suspension or expulsion from the Chamber.

The SNP will also have to decide whether to take its own action against lawmakers.

Mr Grady and Ms Gibson have not yet commented.

A SNP spokesman said: “It would not be legally appropriate to comment while the independent parliamentary process is ongoing.”
