Republican Super PAC, linked to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, has saved $ 141 million for television commercials in seven states, offering an early hint of what Republican leaders see as their way back to the majority.
The Senate Leadership Fund said Monday it has reserved airtime in Arizona, Georgia and Nevada, three states where Democratic leaders are vying for re-election.
The PAC will broadcast commercials in Alaska and Wisconsin to protect Republicans, as well as in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, two states where current Republicans are retiring.
The biggest investment is reserved for Georgia, where Senator Rafael Warnock (D) is vying for a full term after winning a special run-off election last January. The Senate Leadership Fund will spend $ 37.1 million there, likely to support former NFL defender Herschel Walker (R), who is still facing Republican primary elections later this year.
The PAC plans to spend $ 14.4 million against Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) And $ 15.1 million against Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.). He has retained $ 27.6 million to defend retired Sen. Richard Burr (R) in North Carolina and $ 24.6 million to secure the retirement of Sen. Pat Toomey (R) in Pennsylvania.
The group has saved $ 7.4 million for Alaska, where Senator Lisa Markowski (right) faces a challenge from a candidate backed by former President Trump. This money will come after the general party primary elections on August 16; the four best contenders in this primary are advancing for the November general election.
Senator Ron Johnson (R) will receive a $ 15.2 million boost that the PAC plans to spend in Wisconsin. Johnson will face the winner of the Democratic primary on August 9th.
The group’s only notable omission is in New Hampshire, where Senator Maggie Hassan (D) is seeking re-election. Several Republicans are vying for the nomination to stand up to Hassan in the September 13 primary.
Progressives revoke NC congressional candidate’s approval over AIPAC Green’s donations to Russian military action in southern Ukraine: “This is nothing, deliberate terror”
The nine-figure purchase of advertising is the largest initial purchase made by the Senate Leadership Fund. Two years ago, the first round of PAC television commercials was $ 67 million; it raised and spent nearly half a billion dollars in 2020.
Documents submitted to the Federal Election Commission show that the group has raised nearly $ 75 million this year and ended April with $ 72 million in the bank. Political groups can reserve time for advertising even before they have the money to pay for it; they do not have to send money to the TV stations that will broadcast the ads shortly before these ads run.
The Senate-majority PAC, the Democratic partner of the Senate Leadership Fund, had $ 36 million in the bank in late February.
