Portrush’s anti-social behavior: 20 vehicles taken off the road and 140 fixed notices of penalties during the Easter holidays

Police have made five arrests for disorderly conduct, removed 20 vehicles and issued 140 fixed fines over the weekend on the North Coast Easter holidays.

Violations of public order include disorder, disorderly conduct and assault on the police.

A police operation ensued in an attempt to contain riots in cities such as Portrush over the weekend, along with a vehicle safety operation by the Driving and Vehicle Agency (DVA).

This led to an inspection of 34 vehicles, 20 of which were immediately banned.

This means that the vehicle was not in good condition and was not allowed to continue on the road.

Drivers of more than 140 vehicles were given fixed penalties for a number of traffic offenses, including speeding, mobile phone and antisocial driving.

A police spokesman said: “As always, we are grateful for the support of residents, businesses and visitors during these peak times for our area.

“We are very much part of the community here on the North Coast and it is in our best interest to ensure that our cities are safe and lively areas where people can live, work and visit.”
