Police say she described being “forced” into an orange van by a man she did not know on Station Road between 3pm and 4pm earlier that day.
The woman was then taken to a wooded area where she was physically assaulted before fleeing her attacker, police said.
Detective Inspector Dahl Andrews said: “It was a very worrying incident for the woman involved. We have a number of officers making inquiries in the local area, reviewing video surveillance and bells, and conducting house-to-house inquiries to build a broader picture of the circumstances of this attack.
“At this very early stage of the investigation, we are providing support to the victim and working with her to identify the exact time period of this incident, the places where the crime was committed, and further details about the responsible man.

“When we have additional details to share with you, we will do so, but in the meantime we would like to hear from anyone in Station Road and the surrounding area who has a video surveillance camera or a bell camera, as we would like to review the footage.
“In addition, we ask the public to report any suspicious behavior to the police – whether suspicious people or vehicles – in the Gosport area.”
Police patrols have been stepped up in the area since then.
Inspector General Fifi Ghulam-Hussen, Fareham and Gosport District Commander, said: “This incident will undoubtedly be of particular concern to the local community.
“I want to assure the public that this is being thoroughly investigated and in addition to detectives investigating this crime, we also have the support of neighborhood and response officers and patrols who will be conducting regular patrols in the neighborhood.
“Stopping this kind of violence is an absolute priority for us as a Force, and we are working hard with our partners to make the area a safer place for all.”
