Gaza rockets fire Israel for the second time in hours after IS completes strike on the Strip

Terrorist groups in Gaza fired a volley of missiles at southern Israel after midnight on Thursday, less than an hour after the ISIS ended an air offensive in the Hamas-controlled enclave in response to an earlier missile attack.

The Israeli military says the Iron Dome missile defense system has managed to intercept all four missiles fired from Gaza shortly after 2 p.m.

The burst was followed by additional red alert sirens in Gaza’s border towns, but the ISIS later said they were triggered by gunfire, according to earlier reports in the Palestinian media about armed men in the strip opening Israeli fire. aircraft.

Less than an hour earlier, ISIS ended airstrikes in Gaza in response to an earlier rocket fired Wednesday night, which landed near a home in the southern city of Sderot and was the second rocket attack in about 48 hours.

The military said its planes were aimed at a military post in central Gaza, as well as the opening of what she called a terrorist tunnel leading to an underground facility used to make rocket engines. The site was used by fighters belonging to the military wing of Hamas, according to the news site Ynet. The IDF said its strike had dealt a significant blow to the missile production process in Gaza.

The rocket attack on Wednesday night was the second since Monday after a nearly four-month period of calm on the Gaza border. This came at the end of a tense day in Jerusalem, when Israeli nationalists were prevented by police from marching through the gates of Damascus in the Old City, a popular gathering place for Palestinians. Hamas, the terrorist group that controls the Gaza Strip, has threatened to attack if the march continues.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassim said after a IS counterattack on Thursday that “the bombing of Gaza will increase the tenacity of our people and their resistance to continue the struggle and escalate support and aid for our people in Jerusalem.”

The rocket attack on Wednesday night caused damage to a car and a wall near a home in Sderot. The rocket apparently landed outside the city, but a large piece of shrapnel ricocheted and struck near the house. According to Hebrew media reports, hundreds of ball bearings were found at the site, which were loaded into the rocket.

None of the Gaza-based terrorist groups had an immediate claim for the rocket fire on Wednesday and Monday, although Monday’s attack was blamed by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in several media reports. According to Cannes Public Television, the Israeli security service believes that the earlier missile was fired by radicals in the Islamic Jihad who acted alone, and that Hamas is unable to suppress such fraudsters, even when want.

Following the rocket on Monday, the IDF said it had bombed a number of targets, including a site used by Hamas to produce weapons in the Gaza Strip.

In the past, Israel has responded with air strikes against Hamas targets, regardless of the identity of the group that launched the attack. Less often, she has focused her response on Islamic Jihad if the terrorist group takes responsibility.

Violent clashes between Palestinian rebels and Jerusalem Temple police in Jerusalem have been reported in recent days, injuring dozens of Palestinians and several police officers.

Hamas and other Gaza-based terrorist groups have repeatedly referred to the holy site of ignition as a red line. Police actions to quell riots there last year were among the causes of an 11-day war in Gaza last May.
