Yonkers detective recovers after being shot, suspected, killed by FBI agent

YONKERS, Westchester County (WABC) – A veteran detective from Westchester County is in hospital after being shot during a confrontation with a suspect in a shop window in Yonkers.

The suspect was shot and killed.

In Yonkers, it was only the third shooting this year.

The detective was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with serious injuries.

He is expected to survive.

His name has not been revealed, but he is very rewarded and had to retire in less than a week.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon when a task force of Yonkers police and federal agents targeted three suspects at a villa near the intersection of Elm Street and Lincoln Street in the Nodine Hill neighborhood.

Police say one of them pushed past the police, a detective pushed him back, and then police said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the detective from Yonkers in the stomach.

An FBI agent returned fire.

The officers involved were a task force trying to get the weapons out of the streets.

“This is a combination that we thought was very effective in the past to fight the wave of gun violence, where we have officers from the Yonkers State Police and other local police agencies working with the FBI,” said John Mueller. , Commissioner of Police in Yonkers.

“What you saw here is very, very proactive police. And that’s what all the employees do every day, they chase the bad guys, “said Mike Spano, mayor of Yonkers.

“This is my only son!” said Vanessa Jackson, the suspect’s mother. Jackson says her son, 28-year-old Bryant Jackson Adams, was shot and killed when the corner window became a crime scene.

“I want them to know he was a good man,” Jackson said. “He will help everyone and try to make sure he gives the shirt off their backs to help someone, and now I don’t have a child.”

The officers involved in the shooting were in civilian clothes when they followed the suspects in a shop window.

There is no information when the detective will be released from the hospital.
