A man fell to the floor after being hit in an “unprovoked” attack on Matthew Street

A man received a severe neck injury after an “unprovoked” attack.

At 1.50 a.m. on April 2, a man was reported to have approached the victim, a 35-year-old man, and struck him once, knocking him to the floor. He allegedly tracked the man from the Rubber Soul bar in Merseyside Police to Hardy’s, on the corner of Mathew Street and Rainford Square, where the attack took place.

The victim was hospitalized with a severe neck injury and is now recovering at home. Merseyside police have released CCTV footage of a man they believe could help with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “It was a shocking and unprovoked attack on a man who was visiting Liverpool, who had every right to go out and enjoy an evening without being subjected to it. If you recognize the man in the photo or have witnessed some part of the incident, then let us know, as any information you possess may be vital in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
