A $ AP Rocky was detained on Wednesday by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with a shooting in November 2021. A $ AP Rocky, whose official name is Rakim Myers, was returning from a trip to Barbados with Rihanna, his girlfriend, when officers The LAPD and ICE detained him at the Los Angeles International Airport. Eyewitnesses told TMZ that he arrived by private plane and was handcuffed at the terminal.
According to NBC, A $ AP Rocky is under investigation for a Nov. 6 shooting in Hollywood near Vista del Mar and Selma Avenue. A Los Angeles police press release referred to A $ AP Rocky and the victim as “two acquaintances” and said they were embroiled in a dispute that “escalated and led to the suspect firing a gun.” The victim told police that A $ AP Rocky shot him “three to four times”, biting his left arm before fleeing with two other men. The shooting did not appear to have been reported in the press at the time.
A $ AP Rocky and Rihanna reportedly began dating in late 2020, although neither confirmed the relationship until May 2021, when he called it “the love of my life” in an interview with GQ . In January, they announced they were expecting a baby, and Rihanna recently told Vogue that she was in her third trimester. Their recent trip to Barbados came after rumors of a breakup after A $ AP Rocky cheated on shoe designer Amina Muadi, although the rumors were immediately dispelled.
A $ AP Rocky has had several clashes with the law over the past decade, including two allegations of assault following public quarrels. He was arrested in Sweden in July 2019 after he and three members of his entourage clashed with a man on the street. Both sides say they acted in self-defense. A $ AP Rocky was detained in Sweden for six weeks and after a trial was convicted of assault and ordered to pay $ 1,270 in damages.
NBC reports that Rihanna was with him when he was arrested and law enforcement officers searched A $ AP Rocky’s home in Los Angeles. According to court records, he was released on bail hours after he was detained and a court hearing is scheduled for August 17.
