UPDATE at 1:55 p.m.

Kelowna’s RCMP confirmed that a 70-year-old man was found dead in Lake Okanagan on Thursday morning.

Police said they were called after the man was reported missing from his home shortly after 7:30 a.m. this morning.

He was thought to have gone for a walk, which is very unusual.

The search involved members of the general duty, dog services, the RCMP helicopter and the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue.

His body was found in a lake near Stratcona Park.

Cst. Mike Della-Paolera says family members have been notified.

“Fake play is not suspected and BC Coroners Service, along with Kelowna’s RCMP general duty officer, is leading the investigation,” said Della-Paolera.

“The RCMP is saddened by this tragic outcome and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
