A Flair Airlines plane skids off the runway during landing at Waterloo Airport

A Flair Airlines plane with 134 passengers on board skidded off the runway in Waterloo on Friday morning.

The airline says Flair Airlines F8 501 from Vancouver to Kitchener-Waterloo “went off the runway” at Waterloo Region International Airport after landing.

Several videos posted on social media show the plane, a Boeing 737, in what appears to be a grassy field near the runway.

Waterloo Regional Police told CP24 that one passenger was treated by paramedics at the scene for a “minor physical injury.”

No other injuries were reported.

Police say “the area surrounding the airport is currently closed to traffic.”

“Passengers got off the plane and were taken to the terminal by bus. The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our top priority,” a Flair Airlines spokesperson told CP24.

The flight took off from Vancouver late Thursday night and landed in Waterloo around 6:25am

At this time, it remains unclear what caused the plane to go off the runway.

The Canadian Transportation Safety Board said it has a team of investigators to “gather information and assess the event.”
