Police shoot two Markham home invasion suspects

Police have shot and killed two men suspected in a Markham, Ont. home invasions Friday morning, killing one.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says the incident happened shortly after 7 a.m. on Eyer Drive, near Calvert Road, as York Regional Police plainclothes officers investigated six home invasions that occurred between September and November in the area .

Investigators say they have located four individuals identified as suspects in the string of robberies in a white car Friday morning.

As part of that interaction, the SIU said police shot two suspects — one was pronounced dead at the scene and the other, a 26-year-old man, was transported to a hospital in stable condition. At this time, the age and identity of the deceased are unknown.

Images obtained by CTV News Toronto appear to show a civilian officer with a weapon drawn during the interaction.

The SIU said one of the suspects was armed, but it was unclear if that weapon was drawn.

Two men and one woman were arrested and remain in custody.

No further details have been released.

Police are asking any witnesses to the shooting or anyone with relevant information to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529. Anyone with information regarding the home invasion investigation is asked to contact the York Regional Police Apprehension Unit.
