Another significant increase in flu cases in the central AHS area last week

The number of flu deaths in the Central Zone increased by one in the past week for a total of two so far this season.

Province-wide, the Edmonton area currently has the most flu cases at 1,379 with 212 in hospital, 19 in intensive care and four flu-related deaths.

There are currently 1,243 flu cases in the Calgary area, with 218 in hospital, 20 in intensive care and four flu-related deaths.

There are currently 563 cases of flu in the Northern Zone, with 49 patients in hospital, six in intensive care and one flu-related death.

South Zone currently has 117 flu cases, with 24 in hospital, two in intensive care and one flu-related death.

Seven additional cases of influenza have also been identified in the province, including three hospitalizations, but in unconfirmed locations.

According to AHS 911, 529 doses of the flu vaccine have been administered in the province so far this season, which equates to 20.5% coverage.
